Changing Comcast DNS Servers
The other day while browsing the Internet suddenly the browser became unresponsive and I was able to browse no more. I first thought the problem was local on my computer, I did an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew command, but it did not help. then when through the basic router configuration, but everything was normal, quick I noticed I could ping Google, Yahoo. etc, and I could get into either website by typing the IP address, but not the name. that quickly rung my bell about being Domain Name Services (DNS) being the problem.
I use Comcast as my ISP,and even though I believe is scarcely possible for them to have DNS problems, I went to test my theory that my Internet problem was actually DNS. so, I went to http://opendns.org and grab the free DNS IP addresses the provide, and insert it on my router primary and secondary DNS and I tried the Internet again, and BUMM, I was able to browse again.
If you have comcast as your ISP and have similar issues, I recommend running the same test I did, the process is very simple, first, go to https://www.opendns.com/smb/start/device/linksys if you have a Linksys router, and follow the instructions on how to change the DNS server IP addresses.
