smart phones are awesome, they are just like mini computers sitting in our hands. we can take photos with them and share those photos instantly with friends in social sites, we can check emails, manage our money, plan trips, etc. basically smart phones have become our daily personal assistants…..the only problem is that they need to be charged too often.
my Android phone can hardly go for a day with a full charge, and that’s sacrificing many features of what makes a smart phone smart, like email and social sites auto synching. I have installed a “Task killer” tool to kill apps that run in the background that don’t need to run all the time. I have also disabled Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Use wireless network, GPS, Share data with Google, etc. sometimes I call my phone, my dumb phone.
anyhow, those tweaks hardly make a difference. my phone battery still needs to be charged at the end of the day.
on Android phones I think the biggest battery sucker is the mobile network scanner, especially in areas with poor reception. the phone constantly tries to figure out which network to use or is available 3G or 2G, this prevents the phone from going to sleep, and because the phone is awake all the time it drains the battery pretty quick.
on some android phones you can set the phone to use the 2G network only, that will prevent the phone from scanning between 2G and 3G networks on the area, but then Internet access on the phone will be really slow. a possible solution is to use the 3G network only.
to set your android phone to use only the 3G network, do the following:
on your phone dialer type this code *#*#4636#*#* a menu should pop-up. click on Phone information and scroll down. on “Set preferred network type” click on the drop down menu and choose “WCDMA only” the wireless network will restart. after that, your phone will always use the 3G network only .
another thing I do before going to bed is to set the phone on “Airplane mode” so it does not synch up to any mobile network at all. the next day the phone battery is almost at the same charged level I left it before going to bed.
do you have any battery life saver tip you want to share with us?
What if it dont work when I put the code in the dialer
