Installing Ubuntu 8.10 On VMware Server 2.0

Now that we have created a Virtual Machine to install Ubuntu 8.10 we will proceed with the actual Installation. The first thing you need to do is to download Ubuntu 8.10 from the following link http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download once you download the file, move it to the C:\Virtual Machines\ on the directory you created when you setup the virtual machine. on my case, the full path would be C:\Virtual Machines\Ubuntu 8.10. once you do that, login to the VMware Infrastructure Web Access, then click on your virtual machine you created in the previous tutorial and click on the CD/DVD Drive and select Edit:

at the bottom, choose ISO Image and then click on Browse:

browse to the ISO image, it should show up as the image below:

then click OK.

Power On your virtual machine, and the language menu should come up:

Choose your language and hit Enter.

on the following screen choose the second option, Install Ubuntu:

Wait for awhile until the following screen come up:

choose your language, and click on Forward.

Next, you will need to choose the location you are at, or choose a city on the same time zone as yours:

Click on Forward after choosing your city.

Next, choose the keyboard layout  on your computer:

Again, click on Forward after choosing the keyboard layout.

Next, you will need to prepare the disk. remember that this is a virtual machine specifically created for Ubuntu 8.10, so used Guided – use entire disk option:

click on Forward after choosing your settings.

Next, choose your personal settings.

after entering your own personal info, click on Forward.

next, your Ubuntu installation should be ready to get installed.

Click on Install  to start the installation.

Installing system. that should take awhile.

Click on Restart Now when the option comes up.

Ubuntu should be installed on your virtual machine now. enjoy.

here is another screenshot of the newly installed Ubuntu 8.10 on VMware server 2.0. I must admit that the installation was fairly quick, and without any hassle. I have installed Ubuntu on local computers, Microsoft Virtual PC, and others, but this installation has been the less hassle one. very good.
